Moody Romance & Historic Glam: Kat & Nate’s Engagement Session at The Beekman Hotel
The Beekman, A Thompson Hotel

When Kat and Nate told me they wanted an engagement shoot that felt equal parts timeless, romantic, and effortlessly cool, I knew exacty where we needed to go: The Beekman Hotel in Lower Manhattan.
As a New York City wedding photographer, I’m constantly looking for locations that offer both rich history and distinct character. The Beekman—with its iconic nine-story atrium, vintage wrought-iron railings, moody lighting, and lush velvet textures—is a photographer’s dream. But more than that, it was the perfect backdrop for Kat and Nate’s electric chemistry.
Stepping Into Vintage Luxury
We kicked off the session in the hotel’s breathtaking atrium. The soft natural light cascading down from the glass skylight nine floors up created an unbelievable glow around Kat and Nate as they shared a quiet moment together.

Photographer’s Tip: When shooting at luxury NYC venues like The Beekman, embrace the ambient light! The interplay between deep shadows and warm highlights creates a cinematic, editorial vibe that elevated Kat and Nate’s portraits into timeless works of art.

Cocktails & Chemistry at The Bar Room
After exploring the upper balconies, we headed downstairs to The Bar Room at Temple Court. Kat switched into a sleek dress, and Nate looked effortlessly sharp. They ordered signature cocktails, toasted to their upcoming wedding, and instantly made the opulent lounge feel like their own personal date night.

Some of my absolute favorite shots from the day came from these relaxed moments. Kat’s quick laugh and Nate’s attentive gaze made my job so easy. You can truly see how much fun they have together!
Architectural Details & Dramatic Portraits
We wrapped up the shoot by wandering through the moody, jewel-toned hallways and grand staircases of the hotel. The contrast between the historic 19th-century architecture and Kat and Nate’s modern style brought so much energy to every frame.

A few quick tips for shooting at The Beekman:
- Book early: Ensure you check venue permission policies or reserve a room/suite for seamless indoor shooting access.
- Dress the part: Moody, rich textures (like velvet, silk, or tailored suits) complement the warm wood and brass tones of the venue beautifully.
- Embrace the moodiness: Let the shadows work for you—it adds that signature editorial feel!
Congratulations again to Kat and Nate! I can’t wait to capture their big day!
