Mike’s Surprise Marriage and Engagement Proposal to Jenn at NYU
Washington Square Park Engagement Photos
February 27, 2010
When Mike contacted me several months ago to ask me whether I wanted to photograph a real proposal to his girlfriend Jenn, I couldn’t resist. Mike planned an elaborate game with the owners of MetroMetro’s Amazing Race-inspired scavenger hunt around NYC. The day began at Riverside Park on 145th Street then the Upper West Side and then Greenwich Village and Union Square and a few other notable spots around the city until finally ending up in the front courtyard of New York University’s Law School, (where Mike is finishing his law degree and where he would pop the big question). Throughout the day I was in constant contact with Brady, who was coordinating the race. He updated me on whether they would make it to the law school courtyard on time or early. Mike and Jenn showed up a little bit past 5 o’clock, all dressed up as instructed by their last clue. Jenn continued trying to figure out their last clue while Mike waited for the right moment. I had hidden myself at one of the side entrances of the courtyard and shot the entire proposal on the sly. After the proposal and the secret was out that I photographed the entire sequence, we headed over to Washington Square Park for a few shots to complete their engagement adventure in New York City. Since this was right after a huge snow storm had rolled through New York City, the NYU courtyard and Washington Square Park were covered in a white snow blanket, which gave us the perfect backdrop for the big proposal and engagement photos. Congratulations to Mike and Jenn! Thank you for the privilege of capturing this very special moment. Best wishes to you both!
