The first time I met Pina and Alex was at the AS2YP Winter Event back in January 2010 as both of them and I are supporters of Autism Speaks. As the house photographer for the event, my job was to capture great moments of people mingling and having a great time. As I was patrolling the room, I couldn’t help but notice a group of people that were having such a fun time. This group that I happened to stumble upon…. yes you called it….was Pina, Alex, and their amazing friends! The image below, taken at SL Lounge in New York City, is the first image that I ever took of Pina and Alex and their wild bunch.

And since then, and (I believe) 5 more AS2YP events later they’ve become huge fans of my photography. And whoever is a fan of mine, I’m also a fan of theirs so when Pina contacted me last October to be her wedding photographer, I was truly honored. When the wedding day finally arrived it was so wonderful to see so many of those same people that I originally took a picture of 3 years ago. This group may be a bit older and probably a little wiser in the past three years but were just as great and fun to be around. On the wedding day, Pina and the bridesmaids all got ready at the Rivington Hotel in the Lower East Side (LES) while the groomsmen got ready at Alex’s place. When I got to the hotel, they were all drinking, eating and having a grandiose time.

The Rivington Hotel was a perfect “getting ready” location. The uniqueness of this boutique hotel and the close proximity to Old St. Patrick’s and Angel Orensanz was ideal. You can actually see Angel Orensanz from the balcony of the hotel. Pina wore a gorgeous wedding dress by Anne Barge which highlighted a beautiful pair of Manolo Blahnik wedding shoes. The bridesmaids wore elegant plum-colored Monique Lhuillier bridesmaid dresses.

For the “First Look”, Pina and Alex asked me for a really cool and edgy spot. Rather than a typical garden park or hotel lobby which is used in a typical “reveal’, I pitched to them the famous graffiti building in the LES. They were ecstatic with the idea.  The artistic graffiti littered walls and grungy look match their style perfectly.

The wedding ceremony took place at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. It’s high vaulted ceilings and grand organ provided a picturesque setting. After the ceremony, everyone was shuttled away to Angel Orensanz where the dinner reception and party took place. This was the dream location where everyone was waiting to get to. Angel Orensanz, in the LES is one of my favorite places to photograph. The lighting and the Gothic Revival style architecture is stunning and every photographer’s dream. Every time I photograph there, it never ceases to amaze me.

An Edgy Lower East Side Engagement Photoshoot

New York City’s Lower East Side has always had an effortlessly cool, rebellious vibe—an eclectic mix of street art, grungy alleyways, and hidden gems that exude character. For couples who want engagement photos that feel raw, unfiltered, and full of personality, the Lower East Side (LES) is the perfect setting. When this couple reached out to me wanting something different from the typical romantic, sun-kissed engagement session, I knew exactly where to take them.

Setting the Mood: Grit Meets Glamour

From the moment we met up, it was clear this shoot would be anything but ordinary. They wanted their love story captured against the backdrop of LES’s urban charm—think graffiti-covered walls, dimly lit bars, neon signs, and cobblestone streets that tell a story of their own. We started our session on Rivington Street, where a mix of old brick buildings and trendy boutiques set the stage for effortlessly cool portraits.

Iconic Spots & Candid Moments in the Lower East Side

We wandered through the neighborhood, stopping at some of the LES’s most iconic and photogenic locations. The vibrant murals along Houston Street made for bold and dynamic backdrops. After that, an impromptu stop at a vintage record store added a touch of nostalgia. The couple danced on the street completely lost in their own world.

This engagement session was all about embracing the raw beauty of NYC and stepping outside of the conventional. The groom’s reaction was one of pure awe, a mix of tears and laughter as he turned to see his bride for the first time. The couple shared a private embrace, surrounded by the quiet hum of the city. It was a scene straight out of a romance novel, made even more captivating by the golden afternoon light.

Wedding at Queens Botanical Garden – Josh Wong Photography

Today, I had the pleasure of photographing Vivian and Thomas’s wedding. The scheduled forecast was rain which meant that Vivian and Thomas’s outdoor wedding at the Queens Botanical Garden would have to be switched to plan B (the rain plan). Instead, the day turned into a bright, sunny, beautiful day and they were able to have the outdoor wedding that they had dreamed of. We started out at Vivian’s apartment in Midtown Manhattan, where she and Thomas got ready. After a few getting ready shots, we jumped into the limo and headed to Queens Botanical Garden for their ceremony. Following the ceremony, the party headed to Mudan’s banquet hall in Flushing, NY where the couple and their guests celebrated the night away. Below are some of my favorite images of the day and a short wedding montage. Enjoy!

Nikki and Chris were married at the landmarked Park Avenue Christian Church on the Upper East Side. The designers of this stately church were clearly influenced by the Gothic-styled La Sainte Chapelle in Paris, France as it shares a similar 70-foot spire.

The couple had an “Old Hollywood” inspired wedding. They along with their 20-plus bridal party and guests and were dressed de rigeur of this glamorous time period. Nikki wore a gorgeous white satin halter-neck gown with silver beading and a 3-foot-long train. Her hair was styled into lush, film noir-style waves with a white silk flower and feather clip and she carried a bouquet of crimson red roses that had a dusting of silver glitter that shimmered by diamonds on the petals. While Chris wore a black, pin-striped suit which was paired with a white silk tie, white suspenders, and awesome black and white wing-tip shoes. Their bridesmaids wore long fitted black gowns with black satin gloves and long, draping strands of pearls. The groomsmen wore black 3-piece suits and black, pin-striped fedoras. Even the usherettes dressed the part, wearing short black dresses with red satin gloves. Their guests were stylishly dressed in full length tuxedos with tails and top hats, long elegant evening gowns and cocktail dresses in black and white, lots of pearls and sparkling diamond jewelry that were reminiscent of the days of Clark Gable, Rita Hayworth, Bette Davis, Marilyn Monroe, Katharine Hepburn, Fred Astaire, Cary Grant, and Humphrey Bogart.

Nikki and Chris celebrated their wedding banquet on a Circle Line cruise that sailed around the New York harbor with breathtaking views of the New York skyline, Lady Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge, and the Manhattan Bridge. After the party, the couple was whisked off to the Waldorf Astoria in a white vintage Rolls Royce Phantom.

Central Park Weddings Pictures

While most family and friends gather together for the first BBQ cookout of the summer, Erica and Todd had a small, intimate wedding at Central Park’s Sheep Meadow. The wedding took place on the southeast corner of Sheep Meadow, a 15-acre, lush, green meadow for relaxing and admiring one of New York City’s greatest skyline views. It is also where famous scenes from It Could Happen To You, Fisher King, Wall Street, and Manchurian Candidate were shot. The bride, Erica, a fresh faced beauty and the groom, Todd, the adventure kite boarder were joined by their immediate families at the ceremony.
