The first time I met Pina and Alex was at the AS2YP Winter Event back in January 2010 as both of them and I are supporters of Autism Speaks. As the house photographer for the event, my job was to capture great moments of people mingling and having a great time. As I was patrolling the room, I couldn’t help but notice a group of people that were having such a fun time. This group that I happened to stumble upon…. yes you called it….was Pina, Alex, and their amazing friends! The image below, taken at SL Lounge in New York City, is the first image that I ever took of Pina and Alex and their wild bunch.

And since then, and (I believe) 5 more AS2YP events later they’ve become huge fans of my photography. And whoever is a fan of mine, I’m also a fan of theirs so when Pina contacted me last October to be her wedding photographer, I was truly honored. When the wedding day finally arrived it was so wonderful to see so many of those same people that I originally took a picture of 3 years ago. This group may be a bit older and probably a little wiser in the past three years but were just as great and fun to be around. On the wedding day, Pina and the bridesmaids all got ready at the Rivington Hotel in the Lower East Side (LES) while the groomsmen got ready at Alex’s place. When I got to the hotel, they were all drinking, eating and having a grandiose time.

The Rivington Hotel was a perfect “getting ready” location. The uniqueness of this boutique hotel and the close proximity to Old St. Patrick’s and Angel Orensanz was ideal. You can actually see Angel Orensanz from the balcony of the hotel. Pina wore a gorgeous wedding dress by Anne Barge which highlighted a beautiful pair of Manolo Blahnik wedding shoes. The bridesmaids wore elegant plum-colored Monique Lhuillier bridesmaid dresses.

For the “First Look”, Pina and Alex asked me for a really cool and edgy spot. Rather than a typical garden park or hotel lobby which is used in a typical “reveal’, I pitched to them the famous graffiti building in the LES. They were ecstatic with the idea.  The artistic graffiti littered walls and grungy look match their style perfectly.

The wedding ceremony took place at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. It’s high vaulted ceilings and grand organ provided a picturesque setting. After the ceremony, everyone was shuttled away to Angel Orensanz where the dinner reception and party took place. This was the dream location where everyone was waiting to get to. Angel Orensanz, in the LES is one of my favorite places to photograph. The lighting and the Gothic Revival style architecture is stunning and every photographer’s dream. Every time I photograph there, it never ceases to amaze me.

A Vibrant Hindu Wedding at the Heritage Club at Bethpage

There are some weddings that linger in your memory—not just because of their beauty, but because of the energy, emotion, and meaning behind every moment. The Hindu wedding I had the honor of photographing at the Heritage Club at Bethpage was one of those unforgettable celebrations.

Set against the elegant backdrop of the Heritage Club’s classic Long Island charm, the day unfolded in a perfect fusion of tradition and personality. The morning began with the bride and groom preparing in their respective suites—each surrounded by family and friends, laughter, and anticipation.

The baraat (groom’s procession) was one of the most joyful parts of the day. With the groom arriving in style, accompanied by vibrant music and dancing, the celebration had already begun before the ceremony even started. The joy on everyone’s faces was contagious.

The mandap, beautifully decorated with florals and soft fabrics, became the sacred space for the couple’s vows. The ceremony was rich in symbolism—from the saptapadi (seven steps) to the mangal pheras, every moment was deeply spiritual and emotionally moving. Photographing these rituals was a privilege, as each tradition carried so much meaning and connection.

Later in the evening, the reception transformed the venue into a celebration of modern elegance and high-energy dancing. With heartfelt speeches, a stunning first dance, and a packed dance floor all night long, the party was as lively as it was heartfelt.

What made this wedding particularly special was the blend of cultural richness and personal touches the couple brought to their day. Every detail was thoughtfully chosen, and the love between them was palpable in every glance and gesture.

Final Thoughts

As a photographer, it’s these stories I love to tell—where tradition meets personal narrative, and emotion speaks louder than words. I don’t get to go to Connecticut very often to photograph weddings so when Michael whom I met several years earlier from another wedding called to inquire about his wedding, I said “Of course!”
The slice of the pie became sweeter when he told me that it was going to be a barn wedding. The Barns at Wesleyan Hills which was converted to an event space is a very popular wedding venue in Middletown, Connecticut that was built in 1872 and originally used for horses and tobacco storage.

The Wedding Venue: The Barns in the Wesleyan Hills

The Barns was the perfect setting for such an easygoing couple as Michael and Rachel’s wedding and lent itself to some great photography. Although it had rained the night before, the sun came out and the grounds dried in time for their outdoor wedding behind the Big Barn. For those of you who are not familiar with The Barns at Wesleyan Hills, it is split between the Little Barn and the Big Barn. The couple had an intimate wedding of approximately 150 people which included their closest friends and their families. The couple and their loved ones feasted on short ribs and chicken and delicious apple pie from a local bakery and traditional Italian sweets. The couple even had fresh lemonade both pink and traditional, and a signature drink during their cocktail hour called the “Moscow Mule” which is a blend of lime juice, vodka, and cold ginger beer. The bride wore a simple, yet elegant ivory chiffon gown with gold kitten heels and a gold bracelet and earrings while her bridesmaids wore light grey cocktail dresses with magenta pink shoes. The groom and his groomsmen wore classic black suits with light grey ties. Although the groom’s grandparents could not attend, they were present via iPad during the ceremony and the banquet. The Couple: A Love That Shines

This couple exuded love and joy from the moment they arrived. They shared a quiet, emotional first look under the willow trees, which provided a private and serene setting for the moment. The bride looked stunning in her lace gown, while the groom’s timeless navy suit was a perfect match for the rustic aesthetic.

As the couple walked hand-in-hand around the property, I captured candid moments of laughter, stolen glances, and the undeniable connection they shared. These moments felt so authentic, a true testament to the love they have for one another.

The Reception: A Night to Remember

Inside the barn, the reception was nothing short of spectacular. Long farmhouse tables were adorned with lush greenery, soft candlelight, and personal touches that reflected the couple’s story. The couple’s first dance under the string lights was a highlight of the evening—their smiles and joy lit up the room.

Guests enjoyed an evening of heartfelt toasts, delicious farm-to-table cuisine, and plenty of dancing. The barn’s open-air design allowed for a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor spaces, giving guests the chance to enjoy the beautiful night sky.

I recently had the privilege of being part of one such moment when Casey reached out to me to document his marriage proposal to his girlfriend, Emily. As a engagement and wedding photographer, being entrusted with capturing such a deeply personal and intimate moment was both an honor and a thrilling experience.

The Scene for Casey and Emily:

As dusk settled over Battery Park, the air was filled with a sense of anticipation. Casey and Emily arrived at the Lily Pond, where he got down on one knee, professing his love and asking Emily to be his forever. The raw emotions, the joy on Emily’s face, and the stunning backdrop of the city created a cinematic scene that I was privileged to document.

From the initial surprise on Emily’s face to the joyful tears that followed, every moment was a treasure to capture. The soft glow of the city lights reflected in the pond, adding a magical touch to the atmosphere. The love and connection between Casey and Emily were palpable, creating a series of images that would tell their unique love story.

After the proposal, we took advantage of the picturesque surroundings for an impromptu engagement photoshoot. The laughter, the stolen glances, and the shared excitement were seamlessly woven into the narrative of their love. I very much look forward to capturing Casey and Emily’s wedding day.
