Stepping into the TWA Hotel at JFK Airport isn’t just a check-in; it’s a total immersion into the golden age of travel. As a photographer, I’ve seen many incredible venues, but there is something uniquely electric about capturing a wedding at Eero Saarinen’s mid-century modern masterpiece.

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing Tara and Austin’s wedding as they celebrated their “I Do’s” surrounded by 1960s glamour, chili-pepper red carpets, and the timeless curves of the Flight Center and Sunken Lounge.

The Sunken Lounge at TWA Hotel

There is no backdrop in New York quite like the Sunken Lounge at the TWA Hotel. Saarinen’s curves, that signature chili-pepper red, and a love that’s ready for takeoff. A cinematic ceremony for a couple that’s anything but ordinary.

The “Connie” Airplane and the Flight Tubes

We headed out to the tarmac to shoot portraits in front of “Connie,” the 1958 Lockheed Constellation airplane turned cocktail lounge. The gleaming silver fuselage against the expanse of JFK’s active runways created a cinematic backdrop that perfectly captured the “Jet Age romance” theme.

The Flight Tubes

These iconic, red-carpeted tunnels connecting the terminal to the gates are perhaps the most recognizable feature of the hotel. The converging lines and dramatic lighting in these tubes create incredible depth in photos. It felt less like taking wedding photos and more like shooting a high-fashion editorial.

There are endless wedding picture possibilities with the “Connie” airplane, both inside and out.
