The first time I met Pina and Alex was at the AS2YP Winter Event back in January 2010 as both of them and I are supporters of Autism Speaks. As the house photographer for the event, my job was to capture great moments of people mingling and having a great time. As I was patrolling the room, I couldn’t help but notice a group of people that were having such a fun time. This group that I happened to stumble upon…. yes you called it….was Pina, Alex, and their amazing friends! The image below, taken at SL Lounge in New York City, is the first image that I ever took of Pina and Alex and their wild bunch.

And since then, and (I believe) 5 more AS2YP events later they’ve become huge fans of my photography. And whoever is a fan of mine, I’m also a fan of theirs so when Pina contacted me last October to be her wedding photographer, I was truly honored. When the wedding day finally arrived it was so wonderful to see so many of those same people that I originally took a picture of 3 years ago. This group may be a bit older and probably a little wiser in the past three years but were just as great and fun to be around. On the wedding day, Pina and the bridesmaids all got ready at the Rivington Hotel in the Lower East Side (LES) while the groomsmen got ready at Alex’s place. When I got to the hotel, they were all drinking, eating and having a grandiose time.

The Rivington Hotel was a perfect “getting ready” location. The uniqueness of this boutique hotel and the close proximity to Old St. Patrick’s and Angel Orensanz was ideal. You can actually see Angel Orensanz from the balcony of the hotel. Pina wore a gorgeous wedding dress by Anne Barge which highlighted a beautiful pair of Manolo Blahnik wedding shoes. The bridesmaids wore elegant plum-colored Monique Lhuillier bridesmaid dresses.

For the “First Look”, Pina and Alex asked me for a really cool and edgy spot. Rather than a typical garden park or hotel lobby which is used in a typical “reveal’, I pitched to them the famous graffiti building in the LES. They were ecstatic with the idea.  The artistic graffiti littered walls and grungy look match their style perfectly.

The wedding ceremony took place at St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral. It’s high vaulted ceilings and grand organ provided a picturesque setting. After the ceremony, everyone was shuttled away to Angel Orensanz where the dinner reception and party took place. This was the dream location where everyone was waiting to get to. Angel Orensanz, in the LES is one of my favorite places to photograph. The lighting and the Gothic Revival style architecture is stunning and every photographer’s dream. Every time I photograph there, it never ceases to amaze me.

A Dreamy Sunset Wedding at Tappan Hill Mansion

There’s something truly magical about a sunset wedding, and when it takes place at the stunning Tappan Hill Mansion, the results are nothing short of breathtaking. Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing a wedding at this elegant venue, nestled in the scenic Hudson Valley. With its historic charm, sprawling gardens, and panoramic river views, Tappan Hill Mansion provided the perfect setting for a romantic celebration bathed in golden light.

Getting Ready at Castle Hill and Spa in Tarrytown

The day started with the couple getting ready in the luxurious bridal and groom suites, filled with anticipation and excitement. The bride looked absolutely radiant in her flowing gown, complemented by a delicate veil that caught the soft breeze. The groom, dapper in a classic tuxedo, couldn’t contain his joy when he saw his soon-to-be wife during their intimate first look.

After finishing up the Vanity Fair photoshoot the bridesmaids got dressed and the bride headed to Tappan Hill Mansion.

Golden Hour Perfection at Tappan Hill Mansion

As the ceremony approached, the sun began its slow descent, casting warm hues over the estate. The couple exchanged vows in an outdoor ceremony with the Hudson River glistening in the background. The golden sunlight filtering through the trees created a dreamlike atmosphere, enhancing every emotion-filled moment. It was the perfect backdrop for a love story unfolding in real-time.

Romantic Portraits and Unforgettable Moments

Following the ceremony, we took advantage of the golden hour to capture breathtaking portraits. The couple strolled hand in hand through the lush gardens, with the sky painting a masterpiece of pastel pinks, oranges, and purples. The light was soft and warm, highlighting every tender glance and joyful laugh.

One of my favorite moments was when the couple stood on the mansion’s terrace, silhouetted against the glowing sunset. It was a cinematic scene—one that will undoubtedly be treasured for years to come. The blend of natural beauty and the couple’s undeniable chemistry made for some of the most enchanting images of the evening.

A Celebration Under the Stars

As the night fell, guests moved inside to Tappan Hill Mansion’s elegant ballroom, where candlelit tables and lush florals set the stage for an unforgettable reception. The newlyweds shared their first dance beneath twinkling lights, surrounded by loved ones cheering them on. The energy on the dance floor was electric, and as the music played on, I captured candid moments of pure joy and celebration.

The evening ended with a sparkler send-off, a fitting finale to a day filled with love, laughter, and the magic of a Hudson Valley sunset. As I packed up my gear, I couldn’t help but feel grateful to have witnessed and documented such a beautiful love story in one of the most picturesque venues.
