Locations: Chelsea Market, The Highline, The Meat Packing District and it’s surrounding area

Every time I photograph couples in wet conditions, I always think of the classic, romantic and rainy weather scenes from movies. I’m sure everyone has heard of “Singin’ in the Rain” but one scene that always comes to mind is Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard’s kissing scene in the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961) (right). I have to admit that I’ve never watched this movie but scenes like this is where I find many of my photographic inspiration in wet weather photo shoots and situations.

For Lauren and Jason’s engagement session, this wet weather condition was met. Perfect weather to be able to pull off these classic shots.

As usual, I start my couples in simple and warmer areas,  Chelsea Market which is indoors, to get them use to and comfortable my camera. We spent about 30 minutes inside before heading out to the wet weather. Even outside I mostly keep my couples as dry as possible so we try to find overpasses to be under most of the time.  Some of my favorite shots from our wet and rainy adventure below. Congrats to Lauren and Jason and I can’t wait for the wedding.

We found some reprieve under awnings and overpasses to get away from the rainy weather.

Why should I have wet weather engagement photoshoots?

• Rain adds texture and movement to your photos. Whether it’s raindrops on glass, the sheen on your outfits, or the mist in the background, the details create a timeless, artistic aesthetic.

Fresh from a move from Philadelphia to New York City, Ashley and Matt didn’t even have time to settle down in their new place when they had their engagement session with me in the city. They literally just moved to the city a couple of days ago and were still living out of their boxes. How they managed to find clothes for our engagement session … you’ll have to ask them. When I asked them where they’d like to go shoot, they didn’t have a preference so we I decided to hit two spots, The Meatpacking and Chinatown. The Meat Packing has always been a favorite place as it has the Highline and Chelsea Market. As for Chinatown, well… I’ve always suggested Chinatown to my couples but none really wanted to have a shoot there. Ashley and Matt were my first who really embraced the idea…. And I’m soooo glad they did because… OMG. those images that we produced there were EPIC. With the added freak shower storm making the grounds wet… WOW is all I could say. Thanks again you two! I can’t wait till your wedding. Enjoy!
