This year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was back in New York City. The place where it all began. The show highlighted the return of several Angels like Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepole as both were on maternity leave. The show also celebrated the career of the greatest angel of all time, Adriana Lima. This was her last show. Her long standing career with VS is the longest of any model. As you can imagine, it was a very emotional night for her.

This year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion was held at the Grand Palais in Paris France. The Angel Class of 2016 included the veteran crew of Adriana Lima, Alessandra Ambrosio, Lily Aldridge and Elsa Hosk to name a few. Notably missing from this crew is Angel Candice Swanepole, Angel Behati Prinsloo and Angel Karlie Kloss due to personal and other work related obligations. Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner return as sophomores. Some first time angels include Irina Shayk, Bella Hadid and Lais Oliviera. Musical performances included Lady Gaga and the return of Bruno Mars and The Weekend. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show airs on December 5, 2016 on CBS.

Just days before Lionel Richie was honored as the 2016 Music Cares Person of the Year at the Grammy’s, I had the honor and privilege to photograph him for his Lionel Richie Home Collection launch. I spent the most splendid day eating lunch, chatting about what inspires him and how he came up with his new line of fine dinnerware.

Whether I could barely move an inch without half my body being in a model’s glam session or the other half in Josie Natori’s first picture of the day, I yet again realized Josh Wong doesn’t do anything on a small scale as I was his lighting assistant at my first ever NYFW. An hour before Natori featured her evening wear collection, it was exhilarating to watch the runway and lighting perfected moments before the models received their final choreography. The energy naturally increased in the minutes following, and before I knew it, the room was being sprayed with copious amounts of perfume and attractive waiters were greeting the guests with champagne. I didn’t think the day could be any more fabulous, but next thing you know there’s a glass of bubbly in my hand while capturing the sleek detail of each model’s esthetic and Josie’s Asian inspired collection. Almost simultaneously as the champagne stopped flowing and the models delicately paraded backstage to take off their seemingly painful matching stilettos; the room was being recreated for the next wave of talents to capture an audience. I’m standing with the lighting pole soaking up the final moments of show to find Josh wedged into a back room editing his just-taken photos for Vogue. Career. Goals.

The second day was just a ball. Naturally, Josh was shooting Olivia Holt for her NYFW spread for InStyle Magazine. She was simply the most delightful star to buzz through the madness of New York Fashion Week. The adventure first landed us at Rebecca Minkoff’s show where we casually passed backstage security so Olivia could meet with the designer. She was rocking head to toe. Rebecca was backed-up to models getting dressed in her masterpieces with five cameras in her face while effortlessly maintaining the coolest, calmest demeanor. With a swanky live band to set the ambiance, only the hippest of the hip in the industry filled the room. I somehow scored a second row seat to admire Mink’s chick hippie styles consume the runway and observe Josh go into his element to snag only the finest snapshots- anything is possible being in company with him!

During a two hour break between Minkoff’s and Siriano’s shows, I strolled to see the swarms of stylish city folk surround the area. Learning that street style grabs almost as much attention as the designer clothes themselves- I shamelessly made a b-line to critique my getup with black tassel booties and a panama hat; and boy was I happy with the change walking through the doors for Christian Siriano’s show. Backstage, confident celebrities chatted like old-friends, flawless models sat beneath their striking outfits, and I casually chatted with yahoo style personnel. For the final time, we went to the main stage area and this Nebraska girl was very thankful it was her third show! Controlled. Chaos. Photog after photog were pushing their way to snap pictures of celeb friends anxiously awaiting Siriano’s show. As I was tucked behind the photographers trying to stay out of the fire escape, I had a seamless view of Siriano’s stunningly trendy collection that left my jaw on the floor. His Moroccan-inspired minimalistic style shined with the movement and intricate details of the tassels, textures and pleats of his spring line.
I’m humbled to have been leisurely sipping on champagne taking far too many of the same shot at the Natori show, obsessing over Minkoff’s sweet rebellion vibes while being surrounded with social lights, drooling over Siriano’s unforgettable feather skirts, and being able to spend the day alongside a Disney Channel star. It was an up-close and personal insight to this inspiring, ever-changing world that allows us to express who we are through clothing. It takes every piece of the puzzle co-existing inside the show walls to give NYFW its glamour. The truly unmeasurable experience was assisting the person I look up to most in the industry! xo

This year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion took place in London.  For the 4th straight year, I have been invited to provide coverage for this massive yearly event.  What was so cool about this year? well ..here it is.

1) London! Need I say more.

2) My good friend Behati Prinsloo opened the show.

3) Taylor Swift returns for the 2nd year! Why don’t they just make Taylor Swift an Angel already?

4) Two Fantasy Bras worn by the Queens of Angels Adriana Lima and Alessandra Ambrosio as they strutted down the cat walk together.

5) Candice Swanepoel is a real angel.

6) Ed Sheeran, Hozier, and Ariana Grande (Oops, I photographed her right side.)

7) You could really see the BFF connection between Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift! Telling each other inside jokes walking down the runway together.

8) All the photographers needed to be in Black Tie!!!

Behind the Lens: Photographing the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Photographing the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013 was an electrifying experience—one filled with dazzling lights, high-energy performances, and, of course, some of the world’s top supermodels. As a photographer, being on the scene of such a globally recognized event was both an adrenaline rush and a creative challenge.

Go no further if you want to watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on December 10, 2013 which airs on CBS. New York City bombshells Adrianna Lima, Cara Delevingne, Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepoel worked the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013. Musical appearances were by Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Neon Jungle and A Great Big World.

This was my 3rd year photographing the VSFS. Again, I came out of this show wondering if would they be able to top the previous years.

The Build-Up: Prepping for the Show

Before stepping onto the photography platform, preparation was key. Unlike weddings, where I capture intimate, unscripted moments, fashion shows run on precision and timing. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, held at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City, was no different. I knew I had to be ready for fast-paced action, split-second expressions, and, most importantly, the grandeur of the production itself.

My gear selection was crucial. I opted for fast lenses and high-speed camera bodies to ensure I could capture every intricate detail—whether it was the sparkle of a Swarovski-studded wing, the confident stride of a model, or the energetic crowd’s reaction.

The Grand Finale

As the finale wrapped up with the models taking their final walk, confetti filled the air, and the crowd erupted in applause. The challenge wasn’t just getting the shots but telling a story through each frame—highlighting the artistry, elegance, and spectacle of the event.

Photographing the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013 was more than just a job; it was an experience I’ll never forget. From the high-fashion moments to the raw behind-the-scenes emotions, it reminded me why I love what I do—capturing the magic of once-in-a-lifetime events.

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.
