This year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show was back in New York City. The place where it all began. The show highlighted the return of several Angels like Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepole as both were on maternity leave. The show also celebrated the career of the greatest angel of all time, Adriana Lima. This was her last show. Her long standing career with VS is the longest of any model. As you can imagine, it was a very emotional night for her.

Behind the Lens: Photographing the 2013 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Photographing the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013 was an electrifying experience—one filled with dazzling lights, high-energy performances, and, of course, some of the world’s top supermodels. As a photographer, being on the scene of such a globally recognized event was both an adrenaline rush and a creative challenge.

Go no further if you want to watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on December 10, 2013 which airs on CBS. New York City bombshells Adrianna Lima, Cara Delevingne, Behati Prinsloo and Candice Swanepoel worked the runway at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013. Musical appearances were by Taylor Swift, Fall Out Boy, Neon Jungle and A Great Big World.

This was my 3rd year photographing the VSFS. Again, I came out of this show wondering if would they be able to top the previous years.

The Build-Up: Prepping for the Show

Before stepping onto the photography platform, preparation was key. Unlike weddings, where I capture intimate, unscripted moments, fashion shows run on precision and timing. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, held at the Lexington Avenue Armory in New York City, was no different. I knew I had to be ready for fast-paced action, split-second expressions, and, most importantly, the grandeur of the production itself.

My gear selection was crucial. I opted for fast lenses and high-speed camera bodies to ensure I could capture every intricate detail—whether it was the sparkle of a Swarovski-studded wing, the confident stride of a model, or the energetic crowd’s reaction.

The Grand Finale

As the finale wrapped up with the models taking their final walk, confetti filled the air, and the crowd erupted in applause. The challenge wasn’t just getting the shots but telling a story through each frame—highlighting the artistry, elegance, and spectacle of the event.

Photographing the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show 2013 was more than just a job; it was an experience I’ll never forget. From the high-fashion moments to the raw behind-the-scenes emotions, it reminded me why I love what I do—capturing the magic of once-in-a-lifetime events.

Would I do it again? In a heartbeat.

This was my 4th year photographing the Autism Speaks Annual Celebrity Chefs Gala. This year it was hosted by NBC News Special Correspondent Meredith Vieira. The event raised more than a million dollars for Autism research. Participating chefs included Tom Colicchio (Colicchio and Sons); Rocco DiSpirito; Graham Elliot (MasterChef); Masaharu Morimoto (MORIMOTO); Jonathan Waxman (Barbuto); Wylie Dufresne (WD-50); Franklin Becker (Top Chef Masters); Brian Voltaggio (Top Chef); Laurent Tourondel (Arlington Club); and many others.

A few hundred people crammed into Duravit’s NYC spacious showroom for their annual products showcase and launch party. While I wasn’t exactly sure what I was getting myself into when I learned that I would be shooting bathtubs and sinks, I quickly figured out that these tubs are not only luxurious and practical but true works of art. I certainly was not alone in my assertion because every guest in the showroom seemed to be taken by these beautiful bathtubs. I learned that the best photographers act like flies on the wall to get natural pictures of people interacting with the product. Capturing the essence of the space by alternating lenses also helps create versatility in the photographs and adds to capturing the drama of an event. This was a great experience witnessing event photography in action. Several days later when we returned to the showroom the atmosphere of the space was totally different. Now the room was completely empty and we focused on photographing the objects in a way that highlighted the designer’s vision. By taking images of entire structures and some close ups we were able to show viewers many aspects of Duravit’s one of a kind merchandise.
